Common changes that can occur after age 70 and why it’s important to know about them early

After a certain age, many people feel like their body is “acting up.” Sleep becomes lighter, digestion more erratic, and balance sometimes less stable. Yet, these changes are neither sudden nor abnormal. After 70, the body simply enters a new phase of adaptation. Understanding this earlier allows us to better support it, without unnecessary worry, and above all, to continue enjoying everyday life to the fullest.

Lighter sleep, but no less precious

One of the first changes often noticed concerns sleep. Over the years, the body naturally produces less melatonin, the hormone that promotes deep sleep. As a result, we wake up more easily during the night and it is sometimes more difficult to fall back asleep.

This phenomenon is common and does not mean that “one is sleeping poorly.” It mainly suggests adjusting certain habits: exposing oneself to natural light in the morning, limiting screen time in the evening, and maintaining regular bedtimes helps the body regain a more peaceful rhythm.
